Marketplace rules & safety tips

Keep it local, honest and safe. These rules apply to every advert, question and message.

What you can post

  • Your own second-hand or new items for sale, or things you are giving away free.
  • "Wanted" adverts for things you are looking for.
  • One advert per item. Don't post the same item more than once.
  • Real photos of the actual item and an honest description, including any faults.

Not allowed

  • Weapons of any kind, including knives, air guns, crossbows, imitation firearms and ammunition.
  • Drugs, legal highs, medicines and prescription items.
  • Alcohol, tobacco, vapes and e-cigarettes.
  • Live animals and pets.
  • Fake, counterfeit or copied goods, and anything stolen.
  • Adult content or services.
  • Items that have been recalled or are unsafe, such as second-hand child car seats with unknown history, or electrical items with damaged wiring.
  • Personal information, tickets sold above face value where the law forbids it, money-making schemes or anything illegal.
  • Business services. List your business in the business directory instead – it's free.

Questions and messages

  • Be polite. No abuse, threats, hate or harassment.
  • Questions under an advert can be seen by everyone. Use private messages for phone numbers, addresses and collection times.
  • No spam, links or asking people to pay or chat somewhere else.

How we keep the marketplace safe

New members' first adverts are checked before they go live. Anyone can report an advert using the Report this advert link. Adverts that are reported by several people are hidden until we check them. We remove anything that breaks these rules and may close accounts that break them, and we will pass information to the police when the law requires it.

Blackburn Local is a place for local people to find each other. We are not part of any sale, and we don't hold money or items. Please check items carefully before you buy.
